Easy to read and comprehend for student.

Nice edition to Everyday Life Skills textbook if you can get it. Good for reinforcing concepts. I enjoyed the layout and learning lessons of this book. Easy to read and comprehend. I used the textbook and thought that was enough, and used this workbook very little, however that was just my preference. This was used for homeschool Life Skills course for 11th grade. Cost was inexpensive compared to other publishers books.

About the Author
Robert S. Feldman is Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences and Deputy Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Amherst. A recipient of the College Distinguished Teacher Award, he teaches classes ranging in size from 10 to nearly 500 students. During the course of more than two decades as a college instructor, he has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses at Mount Holyoke College, Wesleyan University, and Virginia Commonwealth University in addition to the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

A Fellow of both the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science, Professor Feldman received a B.A. with High Honors from Wesleyan University (and from which he received the Distinguished Alumni Award). He has an MS and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a winner of a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar and Lecturer award, and he has written more than 200 books, book chapters, and scientific articles. He has edited Development of Nonverbal Behavior in Children (Springer-Verlag) and Applications of Nonverbal Behavioral Theory and Research (Erlbaum), and co-edited Fundamentals of Nonverbal Behavior (Cambridge University Press). He is also author of Development Across the Life Span, Understanding Psychology, and P.O.W.E.R. Learning: Strategies for Success in College and Life. His books have been translated into many languages, including Spanish, French, Portuguese, Dutch, Chinese, Korean, German, Arabic, Tagalog, and Japanese, and more than 2.5 million students have used his textbooks.

Professor Feldman’s research interests include honesty and deception in everyday life, work that he described in The Liar in Your Life, a trade book published in 2009. His research has been supported by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute on Disabilities and Rehabilitation Research. He is also president of the Federation of Associations in the Behavioral and Brain Sciences Foundation, an organization that promotes the social sciences, and a member of the board of New England Public Radio.

Professor Feldman loves music, is an enthusiastic pianist, and enjoys cooking and traveling. He has three children and two young grandsons. He and his wife, a psychologist, live in western Massachusetts in a home overlooking the Holyoke Mountain Range.

I write high-octane steampunk fantasy. All my stories have an adventure at the heart with a liberal sprinkling of romance and intrigue thrown into the mix. To confuse things, I also write adventure travel books set firmly on planet Earth. Weird, I know, but it makes me tick. I am a South African, currently living in the UK with my husband, Andrew, my three daughters, a yapping Toy Pomeranian, and a fantastic farm cat called Pixel. When I'm not writing, I'm reading, traveling, herding kids around, taking dogs for walks, and avoiding all cooking.

Totally grabs you and sucks you right in!

This was my first book by Gwynn White and I couldn't put it down. I stayed up all night just to finish it and can't wait to read the rest of the series to find out what happens next. I just adore Lynx and her spunky feisty persona.

African steampunk fantasy at its best!

Rebels Honor offers a great new voice in fantasy with the world building strongly reminiscent of Africa. Lynx is a strong and interesting heroine and the concepts of advanced tech fallen into misuse and largely forgotten is both intriguing and central to the plot. The opening chapters of the book are extremely strong and create a vivid and realistic view of a world divided, with Lynxes clan, village and ostrich hunting jumping out of the page at the reader. In the remainder of the book there is interesting misdirection and misrepresentation of characters which increases the sense of intrigue as well as anticipation - you as the reader know something about each character that the characters collectively do not and it is a heady experience. Axel is a wonderful and straightforward match to Lynx and you find yourself really cheering for him as the story progresses, but he is not as complex and layered as Lukan and this is definitely the character to watch! This was an easy and enjoyable read and comes highly recommended.

Well worth it

This is the first book I have read from Gywnn White and it was good. It's not a typical romantic story, though there is romance in the plot, and bonus points for it not being hard out political either. Timeline wise can almost be compare to the Shannara series from Terry Brooks in that it happens way into the future after a great war threatened the whole of civilisation; but in this case some technology still exits. The main characters are complex and well developed and continue to grow throughout the book and even in the second one which I am currently reading. Lynx, as a heroine, shows that complexity and growth really well as she goes from being a raider in the Norrin tribe to being the crown princess and future empress. She finds out that nothing is as cut and dried as she though and has to revise quite a bit of her idealism and learn to maneuver among all the greys.

The illustration on this book is simply amazing. Exceptionally clear, abundant graphics and with good variation of views makes learning anatomy easier. It just amazes me that there are people out there willing to put in so much of their hearts and minds in to creating something so beautiful and helpful book.

Just a Typical Vacation For the Dirty Pair

A reprint of the second "Dirty Pair" american comics mini-series(circa 1990), this one centers around the 3WA Trouble Consultant team "Lovely Angels," better known as the "Dirty Pair," on vacation. Of course, wherever Kei and Yuri go, trouble follows, and sure enough, it finds them. This time, the trouble comes in the form of Shasti, a genetically engineered "bioroid," who also happens to be a rogue 3WA agent. Kei and Yuri are forced to engage in a lunatic persuit of her throughout the book, leading up to a final confrontation in deep space. But not before they get arrested by the local police, infiltrate a luxury space-liner, disguise themselves as nubile server girls, and destroy an entire city, of course.
The artwork here isn't as impressive as later entries in the series, but that is understandable since this was only Adam Warren's second professional comics job. That said, the artwork is still nice to look at, and conveys the proper sense of hyperactivity customary in a story featuring Kei and Yuri.
The story itself is action-packed, and has a distinctly "Leathal Weapon" flare to it. And Shasti is one of the best female comics villans ever created.
On the downside, the science-fiction element in this story is a bit lacking compared to the later stories, which is why I have given it four stars instead of five. Still highly recommended, but a reader new to the "Dirty Pair" should start with "A Plague of Angels" or "Sim Hell."

Many research studies in the social and economic fields regard the collection and analysis of large amounts of data. These data sets vary in their nature and complexity, they may be one-off or repeated, they may be hierarchical, spatial or temporal. Examples include textual data, transaction-based data, medical data and financial time-series. Standard statistical techniques are usually not well suited to manage this type of data and many authors have proposed extensions of classical techniques or completely new methods. The huge size of these data-sets and their complexity require new strategies of analysis sometimes subsumed under the terms “data mining” or “predictive analytics”. This volume contains a peer review selection of papers, whose preliminary version was presented at the international meeting of the Italian Statistical Society “Statistical Methods for the analysis of large data-sets”. It collects new ideas, methods and original applications to deal with the complexity and high dimensionality of data.

Agostino Di Ciaccio and Mauro Coli are the former President of the Programme Committee and President of the Organizing Committee, respectively and were involved in the selection of the papers. The Well World can help prevent total destruction, but the planet- sized computer has itself been damaged and must be repaired before it can be used to save the universe. Nathan Brazil can fix the damage, but where is Nathan Brazil? It is up to Mavra Chang and Obie the sentient robot to find Brazil before the entire universe is destroyed.

A Personal Favorite.

This title is a personal favorite that I just happened to stumble across shortly after it was first published. I eventually read and greatly enjoyed all five of the original Well World books. It is one of the rare series where an author manages to maintain interesting storylines over several volumes. Later Well World titles, added after the original five, were not as entertaining to me.

At first I was convinced I was not going to like the addition of this new character Marva, how wrong I was. This is a great book and one of five reasons the Well series is so adored by JLC many fans. You are introduced to a lot of new characters that are as interesting as the ones previously. Worth the buy!

Appropriate textbook for middle school or low-level high school only

This is a good, well-written textbook with a lot of great illustrations and diagrams. However, the book is written on a very basic level, and only provides a very superficial coverage to current environmental science topics. I would not recommend this textbook for upper-level high school students. For teachers, this textbook also includes a resource CD with Powerpoints, tests, quizzes, and other worksheets.

This book was required for an Ecology class but I'm glad it was because it has helped tremendously with Lab Reports, Field Summaries, and other scientific papers. Now that the class is over I technically don't need it anymore but I will be sure to hold on to this for future reference.

Waste of a perfectly good tree

This is the most unorganized and aggravating book I have ever had to use. Don't get me wrong there is a lot of good information in the book but you will never find it when you need it. I can hear people saying now "just look it up in the index." That would be okay if the index referred you page that that information was on but it doesn't. If I have a question about a paper and have to look in this book it usually ends in this hunk of junk flying across the room and a google search. I had to buy this book because it is the writing guide that UNF requires but it is an absolute waste of money up front and time when start hunting through it.

This book was required for one class I'm taking which requires me to write a lab report each week--but I wish I had known about it when I started my college career. It is so helpful and easy to read and understand, this is a book you will be able to use for the rest of your life (especially if you choose to stay in the field of science/science research). I recommend this to any Biology major--or even someone taking some higher level bio classes in high school.

About the Author
IAN L. McHARG was the founder of and is professor emeritus in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania. Known as the father of ecological planning, his landmark design projects include The Woodlands, Texas, and Amelia Island, Florida. Professor McHarg has received numerous honorary degrees and awards, including The National Medal of Art, presented by President Bush in 1990.

Significant Book for Architects - Though a Little Slow

While it's not the kind of book you want to lounge around the fireplace reading, it is a book that is frequently referred to by architects. It is significant in designing and ecologially friendly building in today's built-up environment. Summary: Not a great book, but a useful resource for architects.

Before GIS There Was McHarg

Ian McHarg's Design with Nature revolutionized landscape planning just at the time when the modern built environment was being recognized for its devastating effects on natural systems. McHarg devised techniques for planners to envision not just the finished product of human development, but its complex interaction with watersheds, wildlife habitat, viewscapes and anything else that could be represented as a layer on a map. Fast forward to today....Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are complex databases that organize information into the "layers" that McHarg proposed. GIS analysis has found its way into urban planning, oil spill response, wildfire management, epidemiology, endangered species management, socio-economic analysis and many other forms of spatial planning and design. Maps that are products of GIS analysis are digital versions of the tissue and mylar overlays of McHarg's vision and technique. This book is essential reading -- not because planners aren't using its ideas (almost universally, with GIS, they are) but because they don't understand GIS's debt to McHarg's pioneering thinking.
