Valuable Reference

This book is a valuable reference for slope stability. The second edition is an improvement from the first edition, but dosen't make the first obsolete. Some great information, including example problems, on probabilistic analysis has been added and there is a little more on 3D and finite element analysis. Probably not enough changes from the first edition to make you need this one, unless you have some specific questions about one of the new chapters (see the table of contents). Numerous references are provided to allow further research of a particular topic.
This book together with Landslides : Investigation and Mitigation (Special Report (National Research Council (U.S.). Transportation Research Board), 247) make up a great reference set for slope stability.

Royally Screwed was packed with deception, deceit, suspense, thrills and loads of karma that will reel you in from the 1st page until the very last. The storyline is well written and you will be held hostage while reading and trying to find out how it all plays out for each character.

You will feel as if you personally know each character or at least someone like them. Kennedy's character could easily be any woman that has given her all in a relationship but doesn't feel as if she gets it back in return. And Deo is every man that has neglected his relationship for to long..and has to do everything in his power to save it once he realizes what he stands to lose. Now Daddy a/k/a AJ was a chcharacter that I did not see coming but definitely added shock value to the story.

All in all this was a great read for a rookie author. I would definitely recommend R.S. and say that you will NOT be disappointed. Great job!!

That ending had me like whoa and crying laughing! I definitely wasn't expecting that! Kennedy made the decision to seek attention elsewhere once Deo started neglecting her. She had no trust in him whatsoever. Deo, even though he was a good dude, looked out for Tamera and that only caused more problems in his relationship. I didn't like Tamera because she was being selfish and because she messed up, she felt Deo should've accepted her back like it was nothing. Now AJ took me by surprise. And just for being hardheaded Kennedy got herself caught up. I never would've thought Daddy would turn out to be who he was! Like damn Kennedy! I see why she stayed flirting with Jojo now. I was questioning the pregnancy at first but that got answered quickly. I feel bad for Deo though because no matter who Kennedy was doing what with, she was still wrong. Great job Nicki! Can't wait to start part 2.

I enjoyed this book and its nice little twist. I don't want to write too much for fear of giving the story away but all I can do is smh at Kennedy, she was just too darn selfish. I understand women being emotional cheaters ( Kennedy being a cheater is in the description so that's not a spoiler) but goodness. Deo neglected her but wasn't a cheater, I almost want him to have better than Kennedy. I'm hoping part two doesn't take forever to come out because I need answers. Kudos to the author, I'll be reading more of your work as it becomes available.

About the Author

Andrea Harvey BVSc DSAM(Feline) DipECVIM-CA MRCVS
Andrea graduated from the University of Bristol in 2000 and, after some time in small animal practice, returned to Bristol to undertake a 3-year residency in feline medicine, funded by the Feline Advisory Bureau, remaining as FAB Clinical Fellow in Feline Medicine from 2005 to 2010.  She has since continued to work closely with FAB and the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) on various initiatives, particularly the ISFM Cat Friendly Practice Accreditation scheme.  In 2012 she moved to Australia, where she works as a feline clinician in the Small Animal Specialist Hospital, Sydney. Andrea is also the ISFM representative for Australasia, and a tutor on the CVE/ISFM distance education course in feline medicine. She lectures widely internationally and has written numerous articles and book chapters. Andrea is passionate about all aspects of feline medicine, health and welfare, and about supporting and inspiring colleagues in practice to provide the best care for their feline patients.

Séverine Tasker BSc BVSc(Hons) PhD DSAM DipECVIM-CA PGCertHE MRCVS
After graduation from Bristol Veterinary School in 1994, Séverine spent time in practice working for the PDSA before moving to the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh to take up an FAB Residency in Feline Medicine.  She returned to Bristol in 1999, completing her PhD on feline haemoplasma infection in 2002.  She is now a Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Medicine at Bristol.  Working in the Feline Centre and on the molecular side of the diagnostic services of Langford Veterinary Services, she is interested in all aspects of feline medicine, especially infectious diseases and haematological disorders.  Séverine adores all things feline and particularly enjoys teaching veterinary students, nurses and colleagues a holistic approach to feline cases.  She has authored over 100 papers and book chapters and has been an invited speaker at conferences in Europe, USA and Australasia.  In 2008 she was awarded the BSAVA Woodrow Award for outstanding contributions to small animal medicine.

Good information for the cat owner

Although this manual was geared for the professional, I bought it to better understand my cats' medical needs after my oldest girl was diagnosed with CKD. I found that it is easy to read for a layperson like me, and the clear diagrams and photos help explain everything well.

Excellent Basic Reference and Overview

I bought this book since a product I endorse, Kitty Kollar, is recommended in it and I wanted a copy. Upon review of the entire volume, I was impressed at how well the book is organized and the clarity of the information. As the title implies, it appears to be targeted primarily to new graduates who need to know "a little about a lot" as soon as possible. The first chapter about outfitting a cat practice was especially comprehensive as it refers to behavior, safe handling practices, etc. All of this was likely covered in vet school but having such a book as a quick reference would be helpful. As a non-professional whose spouse is a vet, I will keep this volume at home to use as a refresher.

Excellent purchase

I would highly recommend this book. It is clear and simple to follow. It does miss some things out so is not an encyclopedia / comprehensive guide to all diseases that we come across but I also purchased The Feline Patient by Norsworthy and found that the combination of both a comprehensive guide and a quick-reference book such as this is great for a vet interested in feline medicine.

The Ballad of Les Darcy

Recommended to me by my Australian friend, she was correct that the writing style is superior, bringing the character into an intimate relationship with the reader. The usual Kindle E-errors in translation are just a personal annoyance. But that comes with all Kindle translations I have purchased.

Darcy, A story worth retelling!

I knew nothing of Les or his background. Now that I do, I agree with the author that it is an important page in our history that should be made known. Though as is usual for Mr FitzSimons the hero is viewed through Peter's very strong rose coloured glasses. His research is great and is a credit to him. And I like the positive way he presents his main characters i guess I'm just a tad sceptical of such characters being guided by principle alone. On reflection, perhaps it is just that Mr FitzSimons tells the story as the hero would have presented it themselves. So in fact he does get inside the hed of is main characters. And that's not such a bad thing

Ballad of Les Darcy

The book provides a readable and understandable account of the life and times of Les Darcy, probably Australia's greatest boxer, who,like the good son, brother and Australian that he was, wanted to provide for his family before he went off to a war which he was unlikely to return unscathed. Fitzsimmons describes the national state of mind rather well and questions the 'patriotism' which led so many Australians to travel to the other side of the world in order to demonstrate their loyalty to the Empire and claim the national maturity that they believed that had at last won for themselves.
