Very Helpful Book when starting to learn Tang Soo Do

I just started taking Tang Soo Do lessons and I have found this book super helpful, especially when I am at home trying to practice the movements and forms I just learned. It is a great reference book to keep you on track with your lessons so you do not get into bad habits. Very good explainations and tons of photos. Even helps with the Korean to English translations. I would highly recommend for a student of Tang Soo Do...especially a beginner.

It is helping me to learn faster..

This book consists mostly of photographs of hand and foot techniques and of the forms. As a beginning student I find these very helpful, as when it comes time to practice at home I sometimes have forgotten the new things learned in the previous class. The verbal descriptions that go with the photos are clear. In addition, newer students will find the Korean/English, English/Korean glossary of terms helpful. The author has also included a brief (too brief) history of Tang Soo Do and a lineage chart, but for me these are not the strong points of the book. Also, I would have liked to see a little more about the philosophy behind this martial art; however, the photographic explanations of the moves make the book well worth the price.

Almost great

I would've given it 5 stars had the ending not been so rushed and we never found out how Hunter's interview turned out. What?! I don't get that. I love rock star romances since my first one by A.M. Madden, the Back-up Series and am always looking for more but this fell a little short because of the abrupt rushed ending with no epilogue. It's just something I need but it was good overall. It's not your normal rock romance, not sex explicit, no kink, not an alpha hero here, pretty much a clean rock read. I'll read the next story for sure. No cliffhanger here and that is amazing!

Let's have a moment of celebration for The Slow Burns! Don't know who there are? That's okay - I didn't know either until I picked up Rock Star by Tabitha Levin.

Imagine combining two awesome experiences...a front row seat at the hottest concert plus a relaxing stay at a hotel with an awesome room upgrade....together in one night. It's the ideal basis for a sexy rock star romance.

By some crazy circumstance rock star Stark Stone, lead singer of Slow Burns, ends up in Lauren Miller's hotel room naked as Christmas. Do you yell and shout "Get out"? Oh. Hell. No!! You take him for a ride (pun intended). What starts out as the "best sex in my life" quickly turns into secret "hook ups”.

"I want to see you. The Four Seasons LA, room 1023. Come tonight."

Lauren is enjoying the sex and accepting what it is - it’s not anything more than casual hookups. Besides, she has a reputation to uphold and does not want it known she sleeps with the talent. Meanwhile, Stark is having a hard time forgetting the sexy redhead journalist. It’s doesn't gel with his bad boy rock star image when he constantly wants to spend his nights with Lauren.

However, trouble is brewing on the horizon. Their secret may not remain hidden when you have bandmate problems, a sick mother and a jackass for a boss.

This a secret gem waiting to be discovered and devoured. If you like your rock stars a little arrogant with a heart of gold, this is the one. Stark will leave you singing his praises.

fun, sexy read

This book is an exciting, fun, sexy read. Tabitha Levin blends an almost insider's look at both journalism and the entertainment business, giving the characters of Lauren and Stark incredible dimension. My only problem with the book was its length--I wanted more! Because trust me, once this amazing story hooks you, you really will wish that it never ends. From one novelist to another, hats off to Tabitah Levin for penning a thoroughly great read!

Wonderful

I just finished reading "The Barrenness" by Sonja Lewis. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is very well written. I would never have guessed that this was Ms Lewis' first novel. The book is very detailed and descriptive. In some of the scenes you actually feel like you are right there. There are some amazing twists and turns which keeps you captivated right to the end of the book.

The characters are very humanly portrayed. No one is perfect. They all have secrets, disappointments, failures and daily stress that they must learn to cope with in order to get on with their lives. There is also repentence, redemption and forgivness which is crucial to the book.

I would like wish Ms Lewis much success with this novel and I am anxiously waiting for her next one.

Feels like Home

This book felt like home to me. The imagery as the characters traveled from rural towns to major cities throughout the book touched me. I was there but again the physical location was a small piece of this well-written book. Some of the character experiences in this book were foreign to me...at first. Ms. Lewis did an excellent job pulling me into those experiences and making them familiar as if I'd been there myself. Great plot twist at the end and not the same hokey (Girl gets the guy, saves the world) last page.

I hope to see a few of the minor characters again in the next novel.

Realistic, plausible and powerful because 'from the heart'

This is an emotionally powerful study of a central protagonist, Lil, who is approaching 40 years of age and who, at just 10 years, had lost her mother while for 30 more years she has in many ways turned to the emotional support of her aunt, but who is now haunted by the stubborn, if well-intended, advice of aunt Mamie. Aunt Marnie won't let her forget that she, Lil, could miss her opportunity to have a child of her own if she remains without one much longer and, with that loss, there will inevitably follow the ultimate loss of fulfilment in life which might have been her birth right - before tragedy struck with the early loss of her mother.

Mamie's advice is almost obsessive and, for Lil, now claustrophobic, carrying as it does prophecy of an unfulfilled life. It is easy to empathise with Lil; her feelings are so well observed that they are almost palpable. Like many who may have success in their careers but still an emotional hollow, Lil has to carry on a busy working life so that aunt Mamie's continued advice can begin to seem a thorn in her flesh when aunt Mamie gets almost tunnel-visioned in reminding Lil that "time" is getting shorter and opportunity progressively less as time inexorably passes.

I thought the prose came from the heart and so was not unnecessarily 'decorative' but straightforward - and that is why I found it the more powerful; because it gets so 'close to the knuckle' and keeps the characters truly accessible while believable.

Despite the poignancy in Lil's predicament, there is still a unique dry wit - perhaps I should say an incisive edge to the author's observation which cuts to the truth or integrity of the characters as they build. I became drawn in - until I felt I was living alongside Lil's possible fate. Would it really be the case, as her aunt Mamie suggests, that her "womanhood will slip away with time, if she doesn't have a child" ?

There is a sinister injection into the narrative as Lil's cousin, Will, makes a sudden belated phone call in the middle of the night, informing Lil that her aunt has only just passed away in the nursing home. Being so belated, an increasingly bitter argument ensues and, for me, the tension was so well handled for it opened up the case that there is 'unfinished business' between Lil and her cousin left, perhaps, by the circumstances surrounding aunt Manie's passing away.

Apart from the realism and plausibility of the interactions, what then kept me on board was caring about Lil; robbed of a mother when she was 10, not yet a mother herself at 40 and then the burning question - perhaps one for so many women who nevertheless have a degree of success in their working careers - will career success alone bring true happiness and fulfilment if they leave child bearing until too late in their lives?

Sherry Thomas' Brilliance not as Brilliant in this Storyline

"A Dance in Moonlight" is part of the Fitzhugh Trilogy. The books in this trilogy are:

Book #1 Beguiling the Beauty
Book #2 Ravishing the Heiress
Book #2.5 A Dance in Moonlight
Book #3 Tempting the Bride

This little Novella - "A Dance in Moonlight" just didn't do it for me. The reader may have already become acquainted with the heroine, Isabelle, in "Ravishing the Heiress" - she was in love with the impoverished Earl Fitzhugh (Fitz) but alas he had to marry an heiress so he and Isabelle never got together as they had planned. I suppose this book is the author's way of letting her readers know how Isabelle's life turned out. And, in fact, the story starts out with a bang.

*Minor Spoilers*
Isabelle is preparing to depart from her country manor - Doyle's Grange - where she has been living while attempting to get on with her life. She has loved Fitz since forever but all hopes of having him for her very own are now gone. However, as she is leaving Doyle's Grange, she runs into a man in front of her home and believing him to be Fitz, embraces him with excitement thinking he has come to her after all. In fact, it is not Fitz but the man is very nearly a double of Fitz.

The story is about their acquaintance and their eventual romance. The first few pages were interesting, then it seemed as though the story just became blah! Where was the Sherry Thomas who wrote "Not Quite a Husband" or even "Tempting the Bride" which was also a very interesting read?

Sherry Thomas is one gifted writer - my favorite book of hers is "Not Quite a Husband." I was utterly enthralled with the storyline and the writing. It is one of the most amazing love stories I have ever read. Her website and author's page is among the first I turn to when checking out current books. Because some of her books are so amazing, I will continue to buy her books in the hopes she will eventually turn out another winner.

I'd actually give this more like 2.5 stars because I thought it was well written. As improbable as the premise is, I enjoyed the banter between the two main characters very much at first and felt they connected well. As the story goes on, though, the tone became increasingly saccharine. I found the HEA rushed, over the top, and sickeningly sweet. I prefer the author's longer novels, though she can be a bit heavy-handed with the angst and her some of her male characters are exceptionally stupid.

I reminded me of the first novels of mrs Thomas, when she wrote I think more freely, more imaginative. The talent of a good author is in a brief novel to explore peoples's feelings. Why do they make authors write during deadlines?? It makes them not so genuine, don't you think?
